The Batam Jazz Society has successfully organized such events since 2014. “Aside from local audiences and expatriates living in Batam, we also aim to attract visitors from Singapore and Malaysia”, said Gardiana as Head of the Batam Jazz Society. The island was chosen as one of the official partners of UNESCO and the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz to celebrate this event annually. Aside from live music performances, there will also be talk shows and other jazzy agendas. The International Jazz Day was designated by UNESCO in November 2011. Since then the organization has collaborated with many cities around the world to host the celebration of jazz on every 30th April, as the universal language.
